USEA just announced the 2021 and likely 2022 location of the AECs. Rebecca Farm in Montana will most likely be the host of the 2022 AECs so I think I have a new goal. Rebecca Farm won't be that far of a drive for me (compared to Kentucky, lol) and if I start preparations now, what I'm considering won't be impossible, just improbable and I can work with those odds.
I'm going to aim to qualify at BN for AECs in 2022 on Gwyn. There's a ton of in state events I can attend for qualifying. It means endurance in the second half of 2021 and the first half of 2022 will likely be on the back burner to prioritize eventing, but if I'm getting Gwyn fit for endurance, that will transfer over to eventing. Plus all the work I'm putting in now to strengthen her up will help with this goal.
My goal for 2020 is to try a 50 mile endurance ride in October. I've got 3 LDs on the calendar and my fourth endurance ride I've got penciled in will be a 50. It's an ideal move up event since the October ride will be cooler and mostly flat, ideal Gwyn conditions.
These are going to be my big goals with Gwyn for now. They're not impossible goals. They just require hard work that starts now. So I'm going to start that hard work now.
And I'm putting it out there for accountability. I want to go. On this spotty Goober of a horse. We can do it.
those are great goals!!! and definitely BIG :D
ReplyDeletein recent years i've gotten better about looking further into the future to think about "where i want to be," but it's still been hard for me to actually put plans into place in order to actually GET THERE. still tho, having direction is useful! will be curious to see how you flesh out the plans going forward!!
I've had a very amorphous goal of getting my Bronze on Gwyn for a while now but with little deadline to really provide any motivation.
DeleteThis seems attainable. I've already looked into what the qualifying period is and it seems I'll have from May of 2021 until mid August 2022 to meet the qualifications for AECs. There are a LOT of events in state for me in that time period.
I'm definitely working backwards on what I need to get done and when. But that's where I work best. I'll probably have another post eventually talking out loud and working backwards just like I do when I'm estimating what time I need to leave the house in order to get to the airport on time.
Those are great goals and you can totally do it. You’ll be surprised that the 50 really doesn’t seem twice as long as a 25 once you are riding it. I’ve heard that Rebecca Farms is a gorgeous venue.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the same about Rebecca AND about the 50. My friend is determined to drag me up to that mileage, lol.
DeleteGo for it! Reverse for me. KY ever so much closer. I doubt we will be ready before it leaves, alas. If I ever ride in the AECs, I'd want to be schooling and maybe competing at least once at the next level up in order to be ready for a championship course. YMMV
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy with doing the next level up at a schooling show. But per the rules I can't have gone to a USEA event at a higher level if I want to qualify for championships at the lower level. I do have all of this year to get super comfy at BN which is my plan and then roll out competitive BN in 2021.
DeleteI'll definitely keep that thought in mind though! Especially since Rebecca Farm usually doesn't have a BN division at The Event.
From the sound of the article I think it might go back to Kentucky the following year and then oscillate?
"I can't have gone ..." Good to know.
DeleteThat is a fabulous and exciting goal! I think it is great you are thinking ahead so well and making a plan. You've got this!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous goals and I'm here to support it and follow along!
